SE constructs 3-story science facility

The Southeast Tarrant County College campus was my home campus until last spring when I transferred to the South campus. This semester I have classes at the Northeast, South, and Southeast campus. I hadn't been back to the SE campus until Tuesday, August 25 and when I got there I was a little surprised when I saw that the parking lot I typically parked in fenced off and replaced with a giant structure.

My friend and I were discussing its purpose. We thought maybe they were just out of room and needed a new building, that they wanted to be like the other campuses and have some separate buildings, or even that it was a parking garage since there has never been enough parking on campus anyway.

I picked up a copy of the Collegian today and found the article talking about the SE construction. It's a science building; it will house 4 geology labs, 3 speech rooms, a bistro area, a small kitchen, 10 computer science labs and a computer science center, 4 biology labs, 3 chemistry labs, and a science learning center.

This construction makes for a very stressful morning. There are more students at the southeast campus this semester than ever before and less parking since they're building the science building where one of the parking lots used to be. Every morning I almost see a wreck because of the students trying to find a parking space so they can get to class on time. I told my friend that this year the life span of a parking space is about 8 seconds. Today I even had someone in a car follow my friend and me as we walked to my car because they wanted my parking space. It's getting to be ridiculous! Right now they have a temporary parking lot on the East (very far walking distance to the school). It's not a good idea to park there if you're already running late.

I'm glad they're adding a science center to the Southeast campus. Of course, it's too late to help me with my science classes since I'm transferring to UNT January 2010. I just have to deal with the extra traffic and complicated parking lots for the semester. At least I'm only there 2 days a week.
